La Recolte des Ananas- Right tapestry shows the “harvest of pineapples”, based on the 17th century originals by the Beauvais manufactory. This piece, La Recolte des Ananas tapestry, is based on the set of ten tapestries called “The History of the Chinese Emperor” created for the son of King Louis XIV, Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, son of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan. When explorers returned from distant lands, tales of Oriental flora, fauna and culture infused into French consciousness, and became the subject of French art. Tapestries of Oriental subjects were produced as the fascination with Oriental subjects grew. Like its companion piece “La Recolte des Ananas- Left” this tapestry shows lush pineapple fields, with exotic palms and Oriental architecture in the background. The sky is cloudy and atmospheric. Full of beauty, “La Recolte des Ananas- Right” tapestry is backed with a lining and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
