The event of the tournaments were a popular and social gathering of the time. They were first attributed to Geoffrey de Preuilly around the year 1000. These events involved jousts and combat events, where the skills of knights can be demonstrated before the nobility. Banquets and dance was also a part of the spectacle. This tapestry is a rendition of Une Descente de Tournoi a la Fin du XV Siecle, created by Jean-Paul Laurens (1838- 1921),the original tapestry of which was woven at the famous Royal Manufacture of Gobelins from 1895 to 1899.
