Madonna del Rosario

This religious wall hanging “Madonna del Rosario” or Madonna of the Rosary, based on the work of Bartolome Esteban Murillo (1618-1682). Murillo was a painter in the Spanish Baroque style. Best known for his religious works, he also composed many paintings of women and children. The Madonna and child as seen here, was one of the most depicted subjects in religious art from the Baroque and Renaissance era. We see the Virgin with Child, in purple robes to represent wisdom, and a blue shawl to represent power. Both are facing the viewer giving eye contact.
