This tapestry ‘Redoute Rose’ is based on a work by Parisian artist Pierre-Joseph Redoute (1759-1840). His love for roses was not only from the point of view as an artist and illustrator. He was a also a botanist, and this shows in his meticulous attention to detail and precision. In this piece here we see a single rose with multiple small rounded leaves reminiscent of the features of the French Rose or Rosa Gallica. Redoute had a special interest in roses and his famous book of prints ‘Les Roses’ contains many of his most famous prints of flowers. He has produced over 2100 illustrative plates of over 1700 species of plants some of which were the first time they were illustrated. This tapestry is backed with lining and tunnel for easy hanging.
